goat milk to a 2 wk old calf?

Would a 2 wk old calf benefit from goat milk in place of replacer once a day or would that just upset his belly. I only get enough right now to give half a gallon at one feeding.

He has had Diarrhea.

We gave Bovine Ecolizer +C 20 on the advise of the seller.

I sure would think so, I`m not a big fan of Milk replacer, unless you have to. More than likely would help the gut problems for sure. > Marc

Agree it would be an improvement to total milk replacer.

i raised a calf a few years ago all on goat milk, did real well. goat are considered the universal mother because their milk is so good for so many different animals. the only thing i could see being an issue would be just getting it used to it, don't switch too fast, just like any food.

Goat milk is great. BUT I would not give it one feeding and milk replacer another feeding! Mix it, and feed the same thing every time.

Absolutely. Goat milk is the best formula for almost any mammal. Replacer is just horrible stuff IMO.

I use to raise bottle calves on goat milk, and it's great. Milk replacer is terrible stuff, it's tears a babys stomach to shreads, use goat milk and if you have to have a supplement, use powerded milk for humans, but goats the best!!!
I had several that I just let nurse the goat, instead of a bottle, they looked like they were raised on their momma, no big bellies or rough coats. Oh, and before anyone jumps on me, I had a mild stranchion for the goat, so the calves couldn't be rough on her

I don't think y'all are reading the whole question. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

The OP does not have enough goat milk, and wants to alternate goat milk one feeding and replacer the next. IMO this is NOT a good idea. If you do not have enough goat milk, you need to mix it in, so that you are giving the SAME THING both feedings!

you know I raise bunches of calfs....I would never mix cows milk and MR together to feed a calf...I do not know about goats at all...

but there will be two different sizes of quobles in the stomach and I do not know how they would GEL IN THE STOMACH at the same time...it might be the best of all things but to me I would not do the mix and as stated I would not go back and worth either...

to me it would be like mixing 30 weight motor oil with 50 weight it wll ruin your engine the 30 weight modules go inside the 50 weight and give no cushion...

That is what worries me about the mixing.....

I would buy another goat or go all MR..or not raise a calf

TOPSIDE raises them on goats I would email him see what he thinks

I've mixed in the past with positive results, make any transition with calves very slowly, don't overfed and all will be well...Topside

Mixing is more productive than one feeding MR and the next GM.....alternating will really mess up a calf quick....Remember slow transition...Top.
