Cattle Snacking on a dead Pine Tree

When I moved my 4 head of cattle to a new pasture this morning they headed straight for a downed pine tree and have been picking at it for the past 1/2 hour. I know oleander will kill them, but are there other plants/trees that they should be kept away from?

pine wont hurt them, its actually loaded with vit C, they could even strip the bark from live trees too, for the most part they will leave poison plants alone if they have pleanty of good grass and other forage to eat,

Some people make tea from pine needles, and others use pine tar as ointment. It should be safe for cattle to eat.

Larkspur will be in bloom shortly, but there's usually not enough of it to cause them to pick it out.
Rhododendron, but they would have to be confined with a lot of it.

Noticed Charolais calves are likely to investigate and chew up just about anything, plastics and debris are a bigger look-out than anything.

Depends on the pine. Ponderosa Pine has been known to cause cattle to abort.

Wild cherry is bad. They can eat the leaves green and can eat them after they fall off in the fall. But do not let them eat them after you cut the tree or if a limb breaks during a storm. The wilting leaves create an acid that can kill.

Macrocarpa (monteray cypress?) can also cause abortions in the first trimester.
