hernia/Infection? expectations....

I picked up a couple of holstein heifers the other night at a sale. They are both about 220-230lbs. Well they also each have a small lomp about the size of a raquet ball right where their navel should be (one is kinda hard, The other is soft like a waterbaloon). After some research and talking to a few folks, I have narrowed it down to either an infection or an umbilical hernia. Im leaning more towards infection because i cant push either one back in....

Ok. I have bought some LA200 and started administering 15cc last night, Im assuming once a day would be plenty for a couple weeks.

What should my expectations be for these two cows? I dont intend to have either one of them much past 800-1000lbs.

I would assume if it is an infection, the LA200 should do its job, But if they are a hernia what are my options/ keep an eye on them and let it ride? I really hate to take them to the vet and burn up any profit i might see.

Jim

La 200 works for 3 days...so only give a shot every 3 days...I deal with 100's of dairy heifers a year......umbilical hernia is common on them...I have let them go and some have healed up almost completely but you can always tell even at 700 lbs....they do not sell for even Half what a good heifer would...but with the cattle market the way it is now....slaughter price will help you out when you do sell....
..Navel ILL will also cause the other one to be hard...I use the old peroxide trick on them and see if it boils up on the navels if it does the la200 will help and I also poured Iodine on the hard ones work it around and that will completely go away......

DO NOT PUSH IT BACK IN...if it is the gut on the soft one you will puncture the gut and get infected.....the hernia is ruff on the inside and you pushing in and out will teat the gut on the rib ends

My vet wants $200 to fix it that will eat all the profit on my farm so thats the ones I sell at another sale barn instead of the heifer sale I take the good ones to
