stressed out calf coughing ? re meds

We took our four 4-h calves in to the mandatory, calf I-d day, they were dehorned/disbudded, weighed, cut, immunized. My daughters calf, threw himself down four times when they were cutting him, and now he has a cough, stops half way through the bottle, to think about life before he finishes.

I called the vet. Who really doesn't want to treat Large livestock anymore, and the secretary called back, and said Penecillian 5 cc's per 100 lbs,
he's 112lbs.

That wouldn't be my first choice for him. Should I do that, or Should I go next door to my neighbor and get better drugs. I'm asking on here because being a "goat" farmer, I know penecillian won't treat this issue in goats, and wanted someon's opinion that Knows calves better.
I do have dimethox 40 % it is for shipping disease and pnuemonia, I am capable of giving it to him in the jugular. I am out of Excenel, or I'd try that on him. Or should I try bigger guns next door? If the Pen - G will work I'll do that of course

We give our coughing calves Nuflor. See if the neighbor has any of that, if not penicillin won't hurt him.

That's what I'm thinking shipping fever mild case. I'll go check with neighbor at least I have banamine, and if he's out I'll go with the dimethox 40% its a sulfa so should be good.

That would be the last time I participated in "calf I-d day." Never heard of such a thing! Were these procedures done by a vet?

If you care about these calves, then please don't get meds from your neighbor, get a reliable vet who can oversee their care and recommend the meds you need.
