Corn Fed Jersey (pic)

Just to use as a reference: Bottle raised, calf starter for 6 months, grass and hay for 16 months, five pounds of cracked corn per day for one month, 8 pounds of cracked corn per day for one month. This steer will be 24 months old by May 11, the day he packs his bags....I'm guessing by May 11 he'll weigh in at 900 pounds....Topside

A very nice looking animal, topside. Please give us an update on weights, etc., after you take him to the processor?

How are the prices compared to hanging weight? For example our processor charges $40 to slaughter then $.42/lb. to cut and wrap based on hanging weight.

$40 for a slaughter!!! I want to move to your area!!! The cheapest guy around here is charging $170 for a slaughter and .65/lb for CWF.

We no longer raise beef because no one want to play what it cost to get them onto the table.

Sassafras, the best I can recall from two years ago: $25 kill fee and .25 cents a pound live weight. Of course, cut, vaccume pack, and freeze @ .25 a pound...Topside.

Yep that is a purdy hefty jersey, thats what they do when you feed them grain. Nice steer TOP, that is the way mine use to look when we grain fed them out. I would like to see a picture of a steak if you wouldn`t mind Top, everyone says the jerseys are yellow fat, mine are never that yellow. But when they are grass fed they may not be that yellow, I don`t know, what do you think.> Thanks Marc

From what I have seen on my jersey bulls.....seems the fat turns yellow after they are frozen and then thawed out.....right before you cook them

I'm only seeing the yellow fat when I mostly grass feed them. Those that I've grain fed all the way are a lot less yellow. Some of them, (other than the size of steak), look just like I slaughtered and angus steer.
