Sold 4 more calves this week

Ok, I promise, this is the last post I'm going to put up about selling calves. But, here are the results from 4 heifer calves that I sold at the Tenneessee Livestock Producers sale barn in Columbia, TN on Thursday, April 5, 2012.

All are black from a registered black Angus bull and commercial grade black cows. One of them, the smallest, was an orphan whose mother died about a week after birthing the calf. I bottle fed the calf for a while, and then she imposed herself onto a cow/calf that I had in the same paddock with her.

All of the calves were about seven months old. They had been weaned, vaccinated and de-wormed.

1. 425 lbs. - $1.60 per pound

2. 480 lbs. - $1.57 per pound

3. 460 lbs. - $1.50 per pound

4. 335 lbs. - $1.78 per pound

Not too bad, all things considered. Primarily, the buyers are from feedlots in the Midwest. So the calves are loaded here and transported overnight. The buyers have transportation costs to add to the cost of the calves.

Tom in TN

BTW - Happy Easter tomorrow
