I think the ad has to be for more than the 6 pairs, since it says that there are 6 pairs "as of today" and the remaining cows are heavy bred. Doesnt give the total number of head anywhere though...Unless I am reading it wrong??

That was what I got, too.

Boss says dairy culls are going for about a buck a pound now.

He shipped two of my favorites last week. RIP Dovey and Dilly.

We saw some open heifers go for $2000/head 2 weeks ago and then on the auction report the week after 500# calves were going for $1000/head. A bottle calf is going (half beef half jersey) for $275.

According to what I am seeing, the reports say there are less cattle in the USA now, than any time recently. So that makes beef sellers have a bit of leverage, whether that is old milk cows or fed up steers. Leather shoes will probably cost more with less leather hides available.

It doesn't say how many head. It's cows plus pairs and there are 6 pairs, but it doesn't say how many bred cows.

If you've got $32,000 to spend on cattle, you call and ask how many there are.

There is more than 6 cows in the lot.

A lesson for all of us in marketing. List the price per head, not the whole bunch, to avoid sticker shock. Say how many are actually in the lot, duh! Always include a picture in the ad.

well, I used to think in these times that even jersey steers would bring a good price, but after taking them to the sale... well, lets just say I was very dissapointed.
for my boyfriends sake, it's a good thing I didn't watch them sell as we would be bringing 8 of the 9 back home (something he REALLY didn't want to do.
7 700lbers-$.75/lb. and 1 450lber-$.78/lb. one 600lber did go for a $1/lb.
I had been watching the market with the barn in springfield and the price for selection 4/small-med (most likely jerseys) were bringing 1.07/lb! (cheepest ones)
told bf that I think next yr I'd try a different salebarn...

Where are the best sale barns for a Jersey Cross in or near Missouri? All of the ones I've seen here in southeast Missouri sell for $0.60/lb. Makes me wanna cry...

for feeder size Jerseys those aren't bad prices. You will see lower prices for Jerseys since the buyers typically know they won't yield as well as beef cattle or even Holsteins.

I saw a Jersey bull calf go for 80 bucks today. I never thought I would see that.

Could you sell the feeders thru a newspaper ad or Craigslist for more money? Seems like doing the sale to get rid of them is risky. I see a lot of cattle ads on our Craigslist for the feeder sizes you give.

Seems that selling them a bit slower, maybe spread out, you wouldn't take such losses on your feed investment. Calves sold wouldn't have been exposed to disease, stress of going thru the sale, so buyer might like that for the higher price.

Coledgeboundgal.....as I said never seen 700 pounders sell before instead of a different sale barn I would raise a different dairy calf...a black one with few white markings..like I said before or a beef/dairy cross one...they cost more to buy but will bring more and grow faster than the blonde color jerseys steers

Was talking to the boss tonight. Of the 3 cows he shipped Monday, the highest was 1,700 lbs. and went for .84/cwt. The cheapest went for .79, and the other was somewhere in the middle.

Two bull calves less than 2 weeks old sold for $200 and $175.
