New calf!
Well, I guess our Jersey bull works ok. We had a cow that was older and we could not for the life of us find a bull to borrow nor had the money to invest in AI stuff, so we broke down and bought a bull. She ran with the bull for quite some time and we began to worry that maybe we had let her sit idle too long, but yesterday she threw a beautiful dun colored heifer calf! I don't know if this old cow has any more left in her, but so happy to have a replacement and she is taking excellent care of the calf and milked her tonight and only milked out about half and got 1 1/2 gallons out of her. She held her weight well and looks good. Just watching for any sign of trouble since she is older, but so far, so good. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. Hopefully this bull always throws heifers as I have two more cows to breed next fall.
