actually....and I am a bid embarrassed to admit this, why he has just a blissful look on face is because that is a HOT bath my tolerant, non animal person (who for some reason is really attached to Norman) husband was pursuaded to run hot and cold water to the outside spickets so Norman and the crew could enjoy hot baths and I have some equi-massage training soo everyone gets a treatment when I have time..biggest problem is they get so relaxed they could fall on you Norman drools when he is getting worked on....

I thought EVERYONE washed their cattle with warm water! I run the hose from the house to use for washing the calves, show lambs and horses. They all stand much better and warm water gets them cleaner. Might do cold water in the hot days of summer, but usually do the warm water.
I also do the blow off with the vac, shortens drying time. I have gone to blowing off the dogs after a bath, using the vac. Again, shortens the drying time incredibly.
I like them standing still under the warm water, no chasing them around. I bet Norman feels a lot better with all the crusty stuff off. Cattle are so itchy anyway, a bath had to feel good.
Does he have some scratchy brushes mounted to rub on? I got a couple STIFF broom heads and bolted them to the old manger edge. Our calves LOVED rubbing against them, would do lots of self-grooming on the brushes, especially on their heads. Heck if you are going to spoil him, he needs more accessories!

like the scratchy brush idea, I normally wrap postes with smooth wire fencing to give a nice safe face scratching area, like the brushes even better...

Nobody told me I was supposed to give them a bath. I really don't think mine would stand there for it. But then again, I never tried.
Does everyone give them a bath?

Karen! Shame on you.
Cattle require constant batheing and special products to keep their tails shiny.
You are seriously depriving them, you know.
LOL.
I think the only time I have ever really washed cows is when they were injured and I needed to see what was going on,
or occasionally I will wash the booty on a fresh cow when the flies are bothering her.
I only use cold water too, and no blow dryer.
The rest of the time they just get rain-rinsed. We get quite a bit of rain and the cows DO look great after it.
Now SHOWING is different. That is when they bust out those 'products' to make the cattle sparkle and gleam.
It has been years since I had to put a show-shine on any critter.
Seems like they always go straight out and get dirty again at the first opportunity.

Actually, I like to watch those cows clean eachother.
Some of the more motherly ones will really put a spit and slick on their herdmates.
I find that hilarious to watch and I always compliment them on what a nice job they are doing.
