4 bobcat buckets of silage 1 bucket wet gluten 1/2 a 3x3x8 big square of grass mix hay and about 5-6 small squares of wheat straw to finish filling out the mixer and about 10 lb of loose mineral the 500 lb steers get about 10 lb of ddg/soy pellets a day fed seperately i dont feed heifers much of the ddg/soy pellets if i dont have to

i have 150 lb of balancer mixed in with every 9 ton batch of pellets

my silage for this year is pretty short on grain i got free seed corn to cut as they didnt put kernels on the ears this year with the dry summer

normally feed about 60-70 head of holstien steers to finish every year this year i rented another pasture and bought some started steers so i am at about 125 head at 500 plus lb and about 60-70 head started in the 200-300 range and 25 about ready to wean calves . I also mix 3 batches of feed a week for my dad who backrounds beef stocker cattle he generally has about 75-100 5-600lb beef calves on hand at a time The dairy i was getting calves from cut me off as they had a veal buyer come in paying 1.75 a lb for 2 day olds off the farm so i am trying to find some calves to start another batch

I use a gehl 7335 mixer wagon behind a borrowed 2-150 white my 4020 pto wont pull it loaded

starting to run low on hay and have about 50 bale of corn fodder i may have to start mixing in

if the price holds i will have a good year I pay 210 a ton delivered for the soy/ddg pellets delivered and 20 a ton for wet gluten delivered by semi load , been buying straw at 60-70 per ton , will be a good year if the price holds but i am not seeing paying current prices for bucket calves for next years crop , at current prices i can buy heifers for what the veal buyers are paying for bull calves , may buy heifers and sell as springers like you do , will be moving to kentucky next year anyway so i will have less to move i guess

I did not even break even on this last batch of heifers....I paid for 3 day olds almost half for what I sold as bred heifers

Next year I will go to beef dairy cross calfs heifers and bulls

I get the wet ddg also by the semi load....is your soy/ddg pellets mixed together when you get them ?
