Wish i could help But if they LOOK like Jersey's. as in brown in color or blonde..never seen one of those biger than 200 lbs sell
..or do they look like Holstien /Jersey crosses which would mean they are black WITH SOME WHITE MARKINGS they would sell close to this in WEST PLAINS MO but these prices are full Holstiens so adjust down a little

Holsteins: Large 3 lot 492 lbs 117.00; lot and pkg 613-664 lbs 112.00-
112.50; load 783 lbs 108.25; load and part 825-840 lbs 103.50-104.25.

sadly, they have the jersey look but some with white splotches and the darker brown/tan color. I was talking to the guy tonight and he said what he has been seeing is in the .80-.90 per lb. was talking to a friend today and he said he saw them going for up to and around 1.10-1.20 a lb! sigh. I have NEVER seen them go that high, but cattle prices are CRAZY right now.
this is what I found on the Springfield stockyard for Feb 9th.

I have seen them on Superior Livestock Auctions on RFDTV....if I had to guess the blonde ones would be 20 to 30 cents a pound less than the Holstiens but as I said never seen in real life at any sale

but what if they're bringing 1.10 a lb!!!! arrrrrrgh! I'm so torn on what to do! I was thinking that there was a sale tonight I could go sit in on but I was mistaken. guess I could wait and watch the sale this sat to get a price for the guy and if it's to high for him, take them the next week... sigh. I would have liked for them to go this week, but if the difference is going to be (if average wight is 650 x $1.10) $1040... that's a lot of cash that could help pay the bills... even if only a doller a lb, it's a $520 difference! sigh. sometimes farming is so stressful!!!!

thanks. I think I'll need it. just called the springfield sale barn and asked if they had any idea what jerseys were going for and after hemming and hawing about how they didn't really have any said if he were to guess maybe .80-1.00/lb. talked to the guy and he said he couldn't go that high. I said not a problem and it didn't seem like any hard feelings... so now I've got it in my mind that even if I take them to the sale and they don't bring that much, I can always "no sale" them and bring them back home. just waste an entire day...

Take your profit or take a chance! If you get 60 cents minus comision at the sale barn that will be market price for that day.

It is hard to base a price from auction reports. There is a wide range of prices for the same classes and weights of cattle for a reason.

When you sell at home it is a no cost thing to do. If you haul to the sale there are a lot of costs involved. If we are honest about the cost it takes several more dollars a head to overcome this and there is always the chance that yours will be the low price in the sale report.

yea. I ended up posting them forsale on craigslist for $1.05. I figured that some might get dickered down and I'm okay with thats as this way I wont have to pay commision or any of the other fees and time/gas. I decided not to take them this weekend anyway as monday is a holiday and dont think prices will be all that great on a 3 day weekend. this way, I can go and hopefully see what jerseys are bringing for a ballpark price sat as well...

this is my ad listing. I know I need to get pic's up. my sister helped me post the ad and we weren't going to post it till I got pic's, but she must have hit a wrong button as it posted anyway. lol. oh well...
