As long as it is moving it should be all right. If a cow is older she may have inertia and you would have to watch for that.
Also sometimes the calf can be carried so low it can not get into position by its self. It is the calf getting in position with its feet pushing against the cervix that brings on labor.

285 days is the gestation period of cows, you were one cycle off on the breed date. bull calves usually are carried longer, but only about 5 days. info from the husband
