milking devons

I know of a farm in MN that is selling out their herd. The prices seem reasonable and if I was set up for them I'd think about buying some of them. They're red, mid-size cattle and have been used a lot in New England for oxen. Supposed to be easy calving and gentle.. but I've never met one personally.. just what I"ve read.

I have some South Devon cattle. I love them. They are a different breed than just plain Devon. I'm not real sure what a milking devon is, though I have heard people refer to them.

Sue's herd (in MN) is a great little herd, I was going to suggest her but see you beat me to it!

We have a 15 year old Milking Devon ox. He is a gentle giant. I have a couple pictures here. You'll have to scroll down to the 5th & 6th pictures.

American milking devons

I have milking devons in WV and absolutely love them. They suit all my needs for milk, beef and draft. And yes, the herd in MN is in trouble and needs homes NOW. Laurie Maitre's 6 were placed this evening, but there are still 17 registered, rare breed animals that must find a new owner quickly or to the market they will go.... what a shame. I too wish I had more acreage and more $$. There is also a 3YO heifer for sale in SC if that's closer to you. Check out these web sites for more information on the breed:

I believe that I have purchased two family groups from the herd of Milking Devons in southern Minnesota; I will see her tomorrow to finalize the deal. Such a nice lady and fine cattle.

I am still in the market for a half dozen registered Dexters and as many Highland cows if the price and quality are right.

I own a 100 acres and have just retired from teaching so now I can pursue my life long dream of having 30 or 40 head of registered cattle to keep me busy.

Thanks to those of you who mentioned the Minnesota herd of Milking Devons.
