Calf sure seems vigorous, glad it went well. Lucky little critter, not born into snow, mud or muck.

Thanks

Lucy the mother is a red Angus, father also red Angus. Lucy's father was black angus as was the father of the father--same father--he is gone now and so is the other father.

Lucy was the smallest of the Angus (she is the only one left on the property).

And a peanut gallery to cheer them on! Nice photos, Karen! Hope the bad storms weren't near you.

Last night had a downpour and distant thunder, but that is it. It got up to 70 today.

I just heard that there were bad storms, didn't even know it.

Congrats on the RA calf. Figured mom wasn't red poll..was thinking more like a limmi but she doesn't have the typical flat lip of a limmi.....is it (the calf) a bull or heifer?

Great Photos! So how long did the birthing process take? Bull or Heifer? Did you come up with a name yet?

Once the baby started it was only a matter of minutes.

I noticed she was in labor less than 2 hours earlier. I went out to feed everyone and they were all in the woods, except for Sissy and Yo who were already headed up to the barn. I didn't think Lucy would come, but she did. She ate and then when Yo is almost done, I let her in the barn to steal her food--makes her feel special.

Then after I finished chores I went back out and she was back in nearly the same place as I found her that morning. She looked uncomfortable and was doing some pushing. So I went back in and got the camera.

She decided she would take that opportunity to move and cross the brook to have some privacy. Once over there the baby started coming.
