Cost of 2 cows from Spring to butcher time.

I am in the very early stages of even considering a couple of cows. I was thinking of getting them in the spring and slaughtering the following fall/winter. My first question is what is the technical name for the cow when they are within 8 months of slaughter. Also considering this scenerio how much would it cost to raise them during that time period? Thanks in advance,

Feeder cattle?

Well, if they are only eating grass....not much but a fence. We spend about $30 a month on grain for our steer, feeding 5 lbs a day. But you could reduce that by feeding only corn.

I'm new to cattle but experienced with other livestock...
Your question is too open ended...
How much graze do you have? ETC....
What sort of feeding regimen did you have in mind?
Grass fed totally? grain finished?
