29 mo holstien in the freezer....
I just wanted to offer what we learned on our first freezer steer. We got him at 2 days old from a dairy, and raised him on grass pasture with a bit of clover. We hay out here for 5 months of the year, and use a grass alfalfa mix. No grain for him, we save it for our milkers. 29 months old when he was processed. 788 hanging weight, not great but decent. 464 total pounds of boneless meat in the freezer.
I was afraid we would just have to burger him , he was too old, would be tough, should have had grain, meat would taste bad.......I gotta tell you how delicious it is!!! We slow cooked a chuck roast on Sunday and it was the best beef I have had in a very long time.
This was our first attempt at our own meat and I am soooo thankful for having you all to learn from. Just had to share......
