When to breed back

Our jersey freshened two weeks ago. Our bull is trying to jump the fence to get at her this morning. How soon can we breed her back? I thought it best to wait for the 2nd or 3rd heat.

Thanks.

Usually you'd try to get her bred around 45 to 60 days after she calved.

What Karin L said....or, decide when you'd like her to calve and breed for that time frame....for an October calf, breed in January. You'd probably want to avoid calving during hot periods, very stressful for the cow.

Unless your fences are really good and high, your bull take care of it, with or without your permission. Bulls can even come to the dance and then slip back home afterword in the dark of night.

What mozarkian said!!

If she's in good flesh I'd personally let nature take it's course and breed her back when she's ready. Just remember to feed her like a cow that's nursing a calf, making milk, and raising a baby inside her. She'll take care of herself last and you could wind up with an awful poor looking cow if you don't watch her closely.
