Is this a good price?

I've been out of the loop on cattle for a bit, so I'm coming here for opinions. I have a friend who works at a local dairy. He called me yesterday and said that they had a full-blooded Black Angus heifer that was 2 weeks old. My friend said she's a big, strong, very healthy calf. They've offered her to me for a hundred dollars.... Is this an okay price? BTW, she is not a free-martin.

O YEAH! She'd go for about $350 here, at the sale barn as a bottle calf!

It does strike me as odd that a dairy would have a purebred angus calf. Also why would they sell a small calf away from an angus cow? However it's a good price if the calf it like you discribed.

They purchased a whole "lot" of cattle from a farm and the mama angus was within the herd, is my understanding. I have purchased many calves from this guy and he has never one time hoo doo'ed me...... he even tells me that if any calf I get from him dies, he will replace it with another free of charge.

Sounds like a real good price if the calf has been started on the bottle. If they yanked it off the mother at two weeks and you have to start from scratch, more risky.

She has been bottle fed since calving, and was given over 1/2 gallon of colostrum.
