Post 8 heifers left today !

My herd is getting smaller, sold eight head of bred heifers today bound for MO. It was way to hot for me today and after we got them loaded and on their way, I darn near dropped over from the heat. I hate to see the herd go, and I have to say I shed a few tears today after they left. I think it was a combination of the heat and me being exhuasted, I was soaked to the skin. They will have a good home and they are staying together, young couple starting up a raw milk dairy. They couldn`t believe how quite and tame they were, my girls are just that very tame. I think this is all we are going to sell right now, we are down to ten cows and two bred heifers and a few heifer calves. So we will see how the winter goes this year, and how I hold up. Thanks To those on here that have bought animals, and those of you that keep us in your thoughts. > Marc

Woo hoo! Congrats. That will trim the old feed bill.

I know what you mean about liking to keep them together. I gave a very deep discount earlier this year to someone because they didn't split up a set of twins. One had calved, the other one hadn't yet and he was leery of calving out an unknown heifer but he took her in the package deal. She calved on her own so he got a good deal and the sistas got to stay together.

If you don't have some feelings for them you shouldn't raise them, IMHO. No, not pets, but still worthy of some respect and consideration in their managment.

Marc, that is wonderful news.

Your heifers will the foundation for someone's new herd.

Now, you take care of yourself. Take it a bit easy on yourself the next couple of days.
This weather is just about to back down and there is still time to get ready for winter.

10 cows is still plenty of work for you to do.
