when to wean calves

We have June 3rd and June 19th Jersey heifers, and a July 1 Jersey/holstein bull calf. The two heifers are bucket trained and the bull calf is on a bottle. All three are getting 1/2 gallon twice a day of goat milk. All three are finishing off about 6 lbs or more of free choice calf starter grain each day(on pasture so they eat out of a communal grain bucket thats attached to the fence) and drinking water very well. At what age should I consider weaning. I figured we could just water down the girls milk so the boy still gets his bottle, but I'd sure love to put their goat milk into the pigs. Someone told me to keep them on the milk until 5 or 6 months of age, but I THOUGHT it was more like 3 months. I haven't taped them for weight yet, but all three seem to be in good condition.

if they are eating grain well I will take them off at 8 weeks.
If I was running them on their dams and feeding no grain I would wait 5 months.

Joan if you have plenty of milk continue to feed as long as you can stand it...If you're running out of milk or energy than do what Sammy said....8 weeks will work...Topside

I wean on a combination of things. They must be eating grass and hay well, 2 kg of calf meal and be at least 80kgs. I always make sure at least 2/3 fine days are predicted and they are healthy and happy. This is usually 8-10 weeks. I never dilute the milk, I cut down the quantity. You want them to feel a little more hungry so they get used to filling up on grass meal and hay.
