Calf help

I have a one week old today dexter bull calf that has been hunching and having issues pooping. Not hard or anything - but today I took a better look at it and it is mucously and blood tinged?

He has been hunching when he poops (normally yellow) for a about 4 days now.

Coccidiosis? Can you take a fecal sample to your vet or state lab?

I can do a fecal here, but so soon? Generally you don't start cocci prevention until they are 3 weeks or so, for goats anyways.

I would guess cocci but that is me. Could be just fine and having a day or two not feeling the best either.

Brown is fine. Yellow generally indicates too rich of feeding. White is death waiting to happen.

Go get yourself some Corrid and follow the directions for dosage exactly. It's some good stuff but overdosing can kill a calf in a hurry.

Is he a bottle calf or on his mama? Yellow poop can means too rich as Ken mentioned. I wouldn't be too concerned as long as he is pooping and you're not seeing any blood in his stools. Sometimes when they strain so hard they rupture tiny vessels inside their rectum and the corrid will help to clear it up.
