Runny stools in 5 month old Holstein steer

One of my younger steers has quite runny stools. It is a slight step above diarrhea and does slightly pile but still it is much runnier than normal. I have taken him off of feed and given him fresh hay but he still has access to pasture. It is normal greenish color. Should i remove him from pature and keep him supplied with hay only until it clears up or should I treat with something else as well?
Thanks - Matt

To add more information.....he has lost a lttle condition ver the last month or so but did not read into it much since it has been so hot recently until his piles got runny. Also since it has been March sine he was wormed I did pour Ivametin down his back last night.

Is he running a temp? If so, you might consider a broad spectrum antibiotic to cast a wide net on whatever it is. Otherwise, just leave him on hay, water, grass, and minerals until he clears up and then slowly reintroduce grain.

He could have been wormy or he could have picked up coccidiosis or salmonella. Have you noticed an blood in the stools?

No blood in stools, I have been watching them closely. I will check about giving an antibiotic tomorrow.
Thanks Matt

Try useing a sulfa product on him. This will catch any coccidious and also a low grade pnuemonia.

If he's clearing up he probably don't need any antibiotics.
