freezer beef

Have a holstein/jersey cross and is 39 months. Had a calf in may and been on corn meal and 18% pellet feed since calving. I didn't want to keep this heifer and if I sent as bred heifer she'd go for beef. Having fed 3 -4 lbs grain daily at her age will she be ok to put into my freezer. She's been confined to a 3 acre pasture and fed hay. Never sent one to the freezer at this age.

From what I've read, she'll be fine, but you may want to get the non-choice cuts just done at burger. Not sure when they start to get tough. Have you ever milked her? Family milk cows seem to bring in a decent chunk of change, might try to sell her as that.

I sent an angus about that age a couple years ago. The meat was great. Just don't tell the processor how old she is. In michigan any animal over 24 months old has to have all bone removed. I don't like it that way unless it is hamburger.
