Post Not so good news for beef growers

The California Farmer publication had this on their farmprogress.com morning update: http://www.farmprogress.com/story.as...monday-9-51589

Wonder if the Cattleman's Association will respond. Just got a new issue of Prime Time News from the California Beef Council (Beef. It's What's for Dinner.) & they're asking for cattle producers to do an online survey thru end of Sept. @ www.CattleSurvey.com

I still think beef is good food.

The only thing that is going to cause "Meatless Monday" is the escalating price of beef at the super market.

Beef, it's what's priced off the menu.

You can't even get most people to quit smoking so I don't think the public will let these guys tell them what to do. Maybe a few who outspoken will become closet carnivores.

One of the things that I wonder in these calculations is the effect of lack of animal manure in productivity of organic produce. It is possible to grow without manures but the times I've had to do it, plantings coupld not be as dense or as vigorous. If you don't have animals, you are forced to use either chemical or green waste fertilizer.

This just reminds me of the 'carbon credits' program.
More funny numbers to help people feel good about their food choices.

Since *I* dry ALL my laundry on the clothesline and only drive 2.5 miles to work (on a dairy farm ) that means I can eat EXTRA hamburgers and feel perfectly righteous about it.

Also in the news, US beef exports are up 27% over this time last year.
Beef sales to Japan are up 50% over last year, back to where they were pre-madcow.
So that is something.

Me too!

What bugs me on this issue, is that there's no distinguishment between feedlot operation and grassland. In our part of the country, rocky, hilly, impossible to cultivate, not to mention coyotes, cattle bring ground into production that would otherwise lie fallow or be subject to development. Proper range management is still an ideal, but sustainable practices are what folks do who are in for the long run. All this yap about "red meat" being bad is just hearkening back to Kellogg - we should all live on gruel and hence would be placid and compliant. GNASH -

What most people never learn is that most cattle begin and spend most of their lives on pasture and only spend a short time in a feedlot.

WHOOO HOOO! I'm going to be visiting you on Monday then...lol

Breakfast of beef bacon and eggs, using steak as bread.

Lunch will be a nice pastrami, with roast beef as bread.

A nice steak stuffing inside a burger, wrapped in bacon, and smothered in gravy. It's what's for dinner.

Ditto. For spite, I bought a nice London Broil, and will make a point to eat it on Monday. And I barely ever eat beef (too many roosters of my own to even keep up with) but in honor of cancelling someone's vote on Meatless Monday, I'm having Mega Meat Meal Monday. I will put some in my eggs for breakfast, in my sandwich at lunh and have as much as I can cram down for supper. So there! Not so good news for beef growers - Cattle

Man is a omnivore. That means that the critters we are are designed by our Creator to eat meat and other things. Without meat in our diets we will not be as hearty and/or as intelligent as we are supposed to be.

The people in Congress must be off their feed because they sure aren't acting as intelligently as they should.
