Chaffee, MO - Southeast Missouri, near Cape Girardeau
We've decided to sell our (2) red girls (heifer and her dame). We need to cut down on our breeding herd so that we can continue to keep steers and most of our herd is going to end up being Dexter/Lowline so these girls are up for sale.
They are both Milking Devon / Highland. Mary (3 years old) looks just like a Milking Devon but in the winter/spring has pretty long hair. Currently she is very slick and has great body condition. (we rotationally graze and do not worm with chemical wormers) She was a bottle calf and has very petable. I hand milked her a couple of times last year and she never kicked. She is believed to be bred for a fall calf from our deep bodied Lowline bull.
Mercy is Mary's calf and is believed to be bred for a spring calf. Mary is from a bull that was also Devon/Highland. Mercy has held on to a thicker hair coat so far this year but is doing very well.
They are both bred to our Lowline bull (Son of Doc Holliday).
Why are we selling? 1) To move towards a uniform herd. 2) These 1/2 highlands are a little less heat tolerant than the rest of our herd. 3) Mary is very very tame and that is great but while feeding hay she doesn't fight for it and needs to be watched to make sure she's getting enough.
I'd like to get $1500 for Mary and $900 for Mercy. We could negotiate if someone wanted both. Or, we would definitely trade for steers as long as they haven't been fed any grain.
We also have several dexter's (most registered) some not, that we would consider selling.
