I'm sure Norman enjoys outdoor adventure novels...that one must be his favorite.

Cute! Maybe you should have named him Ferdinand instead of Norman?

Norman

I would say Norman is unusual but I don't know for sure as he was the first cow I ever had and I have only had two! I do know he seems far brighter than the horses, a much higher developed sense of humor and curiosity and really likes watching hot air balloon when the fly over the house (whilst the horses run in crazy panicked circles).

Anyone who thinks all cows are 'dumb' has never been around them much.

They are not ALL smart, but they can really surprise you with their awareness and problem-solving skills. I have many stories that show cattle do have intelligence.

I do not believe they are smarter than horses though. Maybe they are a bit more laid back? LOL

Normans taste in books

He loved "the Illustrated Guide to the Olive Farm" which is what I was reading him, by Carol Drinkwater. She is an actress in Brit who played James Harriots wife in the series of "All Creatures Great and Small" for several seasons (he loves those books as well she has written a series of great books about an abandon Olive Farm she and her husband bought in the South of France many years ago, and is also a friend who is a big Norman fan. She said Norman should be handling her publicity

GAM I don't know, maybe my horses are not too bright, he just seems to figure things out so much quicker then my three equines. When they are out in pasture, and I dump feed in the buckets in the paddocke, they must walk away from the paddocik, around the fence and come in through the gate, Norman has no problem, as soon as he sees me leave the house, he is waiting by the bucket. about 70% of the time I have to grab the big horse by the halter and lead him and the others around even after all this time He sees the fly spray bottle and comes over to get coated, because he seems to have figured out it helps, the horse I have to catch and spray. Just funny stuff like that. Again he may be unusual in that he has had lots and lots of human interaction, has even ridden in my mini van when he was little and taken trips with me, so that might be it as well...

Norman needs a job. Train him to drive. He would make a great parade exhibit.

I agree, I think he would make a good oxen, I once tied him to a round bale to try and have him pull the bale off the truck, he was quite willing to help but I couldn't keep the ropes from slipping off him. I would love to have him pull a drag in the pasture to break up the manure clumps, just need to find an old ox collar I guess..thanks Stoney, I do think he is quite the handsome fellow...

I've never seen tack for driving a single ox, but I bet you could adapt some horse tack to work.

Click on "User CP" in the upper lefthand corner, then "Edit Avatar." You will have to make the pic smaller for it to fit ... LMK if you need help.

That's a wonderful photo, BTW! Norman looks very attentive.

I'm afraid my cows would be trying to eat the book!
