Before and After (pics)
If you're new to raising calves you may find this interesting. In the first photo the calf is 5 days old. In the second photo the calf is 3 months old and weaned. Fed goats milk it's entire life and weaned @ 3 months old...Topside

Wow, very impressive. So do you teach yours to lead with a collar? I've been trying to find halters to fit mine. Just put one in a sheep halter. But if I could just collar them like a goat, that'd be easier.

Lovely calf, topside, well done!
farmgirl6, I believe most people open a free Photobucket account for their photos and then copy and paste them to posts in this forum. Give it a try!

First step is to post them somewhere online like imageshack or photobucket. After I had trouble with imageshack, I actually just started posting my photos to facebook and then getting the url to put them here.
Click on the picture frame icon above and put the image url from your hosting website between the

Mary the collar only stays on till they outgrow it...just something to grab on to during chores. When I was raising groups of heifers I'd buy pony halters for them, plus train to lead. Anyway everyone thanks for the kind comments...Topside

I have two bottle calves and both people had them on milk replacer one was born first of april the other first part of may. I have been adding goats milk to the milk replacer but how much would I have to feed them, and you wean at 3 months? Do you give any grain now? I really want grass fed cattle but I am not sure if I am doing it right, i read that you had to put them on grain when weaning them off the milk. How long should I feed them and then when can I take them off the grain?

Pygmy, I weaned this one @ 3 months. Normally I wean @ 2 months, but this calf was luckier than most. He gets "calf starter" 16-18% from day one. At weaning he continues to receive grain. I will take him off calf starter once he eats 200pounds worth. Hope I answered your questions...Topside
