Thanks.
Anyone want to speculate on breeds/mix of breeds?

They look great, you are doing a good job. The one on the left, some Hereford must be in there to have the white on the face and the chest.

Some Hereford in the white faced one, or possibly Simmental.

One of my husband's friends suggested some Simmental in that one. I actually had to google it to see what a Simmental was, and was surprised there was another red breed with white face like that.

The one on the right looks Brangus to me. Those wide, long ears usually show up from the Brahma influence.
The one on the left looks Angus with a splash of Hereford somewhere.
And they both look AWESOME! What a great job you've done with them. I remember the pics of them when you first got them. Just look at the shine on the white-faced one

Now 8 weeks. I have enough goat milk in jars left for about 2 more weeks. They'll maybe get one bottle a day for awhile after that if my goat doesn't go dry.
They're also eating creep feed twice a day, and a little hay.

DH and I have an old 91 acre farm, and currently no cattle on the outlying fields. We are three years into drought, so there's not much grass there, and I don't think the county is going to be in a hurry to yank our ag exemption under the circumstances. But eventually, we're going to have to get animals out there again. I had the thought that I could bring home a little bull calf the first of the year and raise him long enough to maybe breed these girls before sending him to freezer camp, or back to auction, and start out slow like that.
Of course, since these two were auction calves, I'm not absolutely certain they aren't freemartins, but that is what's in the back of my mind. If all else fails, they'll be good beef.

mary,tx -- sounds like you have a realistic plan! Hope they continue to do well for you; looks like you got off to a great start with them.
I sympathize with the drought situation in Texas, terrible!
