She is from a working dairy that is transitioning over to Water Buffalo.

Water buffalo? Really? I remember reading something about milking them. I saw some once-pretty close up- on a 'safari' trip at an animal park here in TN. I thought they were beautiful creatures.

Speaking of beautiful creatures, that's one cute heifer. Should sell easily.

jersey

Oh my goodness, she could be the twin of the little heifer I have who is just turned three months....I was concerned she might be a free martin but one of the folks here pointed out she might be a cross and that is why her neither regions are so hairy, and she looks just like this girl! what a beauty!

I've heard and read hundreds of opionions on hairy backsides and leathery looking udders on heifer calves. The truth is: You're not going to know without having her blood tested or wait until she's old enough to put with a bull. A blood test sure is some good insurance money when you're looking at the price of feed and what it will take to get her fresh.

Bottom line is: Unless you seen her hit the ground as a twin to a bull calf you don't know until she's tested. And then even a small number can be fertile.

lovely cross

I am going to try and get her tested (my local vet does not even know how to check one for FM so I am going to try a link someone sent me)

I am just so happy there is another possibility, (maybe I am clinging to straws) my gal looks so much like this gal face shape and coat and all, they could be twins and I understand the cross could make her more hairy in her nethers, I so hope so! I wish I lived close enough to buy this lovely girl as well, what a nice cross!! It would certainly explain why my gal was a hair on the cheaper side for what was billed as a Jersey But you are right, I should not get my hopes up too much....
