WWYD sales situation

Last fall I sold a miniature angus to a 4-H kid that lives several hours away. Her uncle picked her up and kept her for a couple months untill they could get her. She was approx 2 years old when sold and had been running with my bull for about 6 months. In the ad it was clear that she had been running with the bull but I was unable to blood test her for pregnancy. I also told her uncle that at pick up. I hadnt seen him actaully breeding untill the last couple months. My other cow is confirmed preg. and due any day. He said that he hoped she was pregnant as the girl was really after the calf. I sold her this heifer for less then asking price as she didnt quite have the full amount. Also, this heifer was priced according to possibly open status, I got $850 for her, around here mini cows easily sell for $1500 unregistered.
Got an e-mail today that she was never pregnant, they had a vet out. The vet said looked like she had never been bred at all. Im not real sure how he can tell that but I know the bull mounted her. She asked if she could bring her back to be exposed to the bull again or have a small refund.
Trouble is I dont have a bull that can breed a mini anymore. I sold the bull before I sold the heifer. I would have gladly said yes but I really cant do that. I also dont really know if I am morally obligated to give her any kind of refund. In fact I dont really have it anyways. One of the reasons I cut back was because I am part time working and couldnt afford the big hay bill. What I did offer her was, if my Highland (bred to a mini) has a bull calf I would sell him to her very reduced (like $200 off). Sorry but if its a hiefer she is spoken for so cant really help her out there.
Do you think this is reasonable? I dont really know what else to do for her, if I even should have to. I just feel bad, even though it was clear she wasnt confirmed preg. :/

I think I would have told them the sale was final. I assume you would have made no objection to the buyer having the heifer preg-checked at their own expense prior to purchase. If they did not exercise that option, they have no one to blame but themselves.

I bought a Highland Cow that was 'pasture bred' a few years ago.
She never did have a calf but I never complained to the former owner.
So I ended up getting a bull myself.....
Maybe you can tell him that since she was not confirmed pregnant you did sell her at an open price.(you said you sold her cheaper than going rate)

Waaaa….. my bargain turned out to be no bargain so I want my money back.
Sorry folks, a deal is a deal. If it would have had twins, would they give you more money? Nope. If the cow won State Grand Champion, would they send you more money? Nope.
4H is for education. Here’s a lesson. If you expect her to be bred, have her checked.

Unless you have S-U-C-K-E-R tattooed on your forehead, email them back that sorry she wasn't bred, but she was sold with a price that reflected that possibility. The fact that you even sold her for less than you wanted just because you were being nice to a
4-H kid shows them in an even worse light. The fact that they are asking for a slight refund, well, I would have nothing more to do with them. You were honest, they are trying to chistle a little more out of you. They can do AI on the heifer, why are they bothering you? No, it's money they want. Nuts to them.

I would never expect nor ask for a refund. I would possibly ask to breed her again, but if you don't have the bull--you don't have the bull! That's probably what I would chalk it up to for them and leave it at that.

We bought our sheep from certain breeders because they offered a 'warranty' that their sheep we bought at 4 months old would for sure breed or they replace. If you didn't offer that, then I say the sale is final.

Sorry they put you in this predicament.
