I'd put them a good strong 5 out of 10, maybe even a 6.

BCS 5. You can tell where the last rib is and they have a little bit of hollow in the hip. Probably right where they need to be going into a hot, humid Carolina summer?

Hot and humid is right... man it's been smoking lately.

Last 5 days at least the day time temps mid to upper 90's humidity 80% +/-
I don't see any relief on weather.com for at least another 7 days. Sure we are getting a popup thunderstorm now and then but man it's not looking good for this summer... again.

Marc - they are all registered Black Angus - I'm trying to do seed stock - except 2 heifers I held back - going to put those two heifers into the freezer this winter I believe - unless someone want's to buy them LOL.

I just started up about 20 months ago - I got them in almost as good of condition as they are in now and all pregnant. They dropped calves starting at the end of January 2010 till end of April 2010. 1 of the cows got pretty lame and just didn't seem to recover so I called a vet in around August - he said I needed to fertilize my pastures and increase my paddock size because by then the cows had lost a LOT of condition. When the cows dropped calves I didn't increase the paddock size and was still forcing them to clean up the pasture so it looked like a mowed lawn. He recommended I sell my calf crop ASAP to relieve the pressure from the cows - all except 2 calves who were smaller than the rest.

7 calves went to the sale barn all between 550 and 650 pounds.

The cows seemed to bounce back pretty strong once the calves were gone until around December when they seemed to hold stable in condition until spring's lush growth.

In November one of the top Angus seed stock producers in the state had an auction where I finally got my Bull - he's another long story - great disposition on him however.

I'm hoping to have calves start dropping September through December probably.
