Anyone heard of alergies to grass fed beef?

I was talking to a person that buys beef from me today and he mentioned that his brothers wife got sick every time she ate it, but was fine with store bought grain fed beef. Everyone else I have talked to raves about the beef, and most have pre-ordered sides for next year. The person I talked to said that she is just weird and he wants more, so no lost customer, but I feel the need to know if it is a common thing. I tried googling it, but all I came up with are articals about the benifits, or saying it is no different. I figure someone here might have heard of allergies, other than to soy (which I don't feed), and the one instance posted on here once. Thanks.

Yeah, I've heard of it, But the people claiming it have a lot of behavior that seems hypochondriac to me.

Grain fed cattle bought at the super market have eaten grass. They are raised on grass when they are young and they are fed hay, which is grass.

There are lots of people who will eat food from the supermarket but won't eat the same type of food fresh off a farm. Ask anyone who raises eggs about people who will eat store bought eggs but think that fresh eggs, that came out of a chicken's butt, are too gross to even look at.

Quite the opposite I'd say

All the foodphobics I've ever heard from think grass-fed is the new pure food, runs close with organic food. All the paranoia is focused on grain-fed, and from what I've read there's a grain of truth for both those perspectives. Muscle isn't like milk as far as what goes through the animal from one end to the other so to speak. As an ex-San Francisco foodie, I'd say that woman is a minority of one

It has kinda dumbfounded me. I wouldn't think she would be a phobic, being an RN, but you never know. You would think I would have found something, she can't be the only one, but maybe I am just lucky. Just what I need, one more thing to have to think about, you would think the fence jumping bull I have and the lack of rain and poor pastures this year would be enough.

Either she is a hypochondriac or attention seeker, or else she really does have a sensitivity to something the animal had eaten. You probably aren't ever going to know which. File it away in the "things that make you go hmmmm" file, and keep selling good beef.

True, but feedlot beef is fed nearly straight grain for the last 45 days or so. That would allow any allergens to clear the system.

I developed a beef and pork allergy at the age of around 24 or 25. But it was to just certain ones at first and now I can't even THINK about eating any type or either one. I tried seeing if it was just store bought beef and so tried some organic beef from the neighbor and broke out in hives and stuff. Last food breakout was from some biscuits and gravy that had some itty bitty pieces of sausage in them that were not even visible, didn't know they were in there. Sent me to the ER. Hives everywhere.....looked like some freak.
Hate it as I was one of those people that thought that people who rattled on about allergies were just hypochondriacs or weak or something and now I'm allergic to so many things. Gets worse as time goes on. 2 Ibuprofen made me look some freak of nature.....gave the ladies in the local ER something to be amazed over. You gotta love it when people walk by and look at you and touch your arm and say...."oh you poor thing" and don't even know you. LOL!

So no, that can really happen. Only been able to find a few people that have had this happen. Something one lady told me to try was drinking a high alcohol content wine with it as that worked for her. Does me too but seeing as I have no tolerance to alcohol I don't break out, I pass out. LOL! 10oz of wine (5oz before I started eating it and 5oz during and she drank 5oz after but I didn't make it that far). By any chance do you know how long it took to make her sick? It take me about 4 1/2 - 5 hours to have any symptoms at all and once I do, look out ER, here we come.q

Aren't many grains just the "fruit" of grasses?

Corn, oats, wheat....

Yes but they contain no chlorophyll.
