Freedom for Food Producers

I came across a news story about this last week, but it only just occured to me to post something about it on the forum. This should be of interest to any of you that sell beef or raise milk cows. Sedgwick, Maine has recently passed an ordinance that affirms the right of farmers to produce, process, and sell their farm products, including meat and raw milk, without interference from the state or feds.

You can read the actual ordinance here. Like any good law, it is short and easy to understand. http://www.sedgwickmaine.org/images/...-ordinance.pdf

Similar ordinances are being considered in several other towns in Maine. Freedom-minded farmers should consider introducing this idea in their own towns.

Good point!

Right-to-farm is getting to be a more urgent issue for growers as more people sprawl out into ag country. We had a successful plan registered with the county just by holding "town" meetings and the attendees basically made the rules by agreement. The town is just a bunch of people in proximity, no incorporation or structure to speak of. We may want to be independent & left alone to do our own thing, but that's not reality.
