a couple of dumb questions

I would like to get some bottle calves from a dairy. There aren't any close by so I will have to call the ranchers/farmers(?) How do I go about this without sounding like an idiot? Do I just say "Hey, do you have any bottle calves available?" Is there a certain time of year for this? Have I missed it in Tx? What would be a reasonable price? I would like about 4 Thanks.

Dairies generally have cows calving year-round. Just call the farmer and ask. He will probably know how much he wants for them. You can check your local livestock auction and see what they're going for, too -- that way you'll know whether you're getting a good deal or not.

Like Willow said, just call and asked to be placed on his list.
1. He/she would be a dairy framer
2. I would only buy one or two, not four
3. Dairy cows calve year round
4. Price varies greatly
