Using Weigh Tapes

Since I am so awful at guesstimating weights of everything, cattle, horses, dogs, people, etc...I bought a beef cattle weigh tape for my Angus heifers. I realize it is just an approximation, but with no scales available, its better than me eye-balling it.

There are lots of directions and tips on the weigh tape. It gives weights for four classes of condition (thin, moderate, fleshy and very fleshy) based on the various heart girths. It says something to the effect that a very fleshy animal will weigh LESS than a thin animal with the same girth measurement. I just don't understand this. Is that right?

Well, fat weighs less than muscle and bone, so if the percentage of fat in an animal is higher, it will weigh less than a thinner animal with the same measurement.
