more elec fence Q's - joules?

I had to buy a new fence charger today. I think lightening got it last night. It was a .5 Joule unit. At the store, they had a 70, 20 or 5 acre units. I opted for the 20 acre unit with .75 joules. But they couldn't answer my questions -

Does more joules mean a heavier jolt - or just that same jolt over a larger distance? I'd love to have a larger jolt but maybe that's not available?

Thanks!

More joules, more jolt, with a heavier load.
