How old is this dexter? and when to breed.

This is my dun tested long leg dexter heifer. I have had her 6 months. When I got her she was pretty big but still nursing on her mom. I was guessing her at 6 months but no info was given.

What age is it safe to put her with a bull? I know jerseys are bred to calve at 24 months but unsure on whats expected of dexters.
Pardon the mud, it is sooooo bad by the gate.

From the looks of her horns I'd say she is around 15 to 18 months old. If she was tested for dun, why wasn't she regitered? The owner should be able to tell you her age. I put my heifers with the bull when they are 15 months old, it seems to work out good.

Has she been cycling regularly? Although they can start coming into earlier, ours seem to start around 7 months.

I agree with copperhead 46...check with the breeder who sold her to you. Also, your vet can check her teeth to get an approximate age and can examine her to see if she's ready to breed. If you're not able to get an answer, I'd hold off breeding until later to be safe, even until December. What bull will you be using?

I cannot get that answer because she came from an exotic livestock auction. She was in a stall with her mother and was nursing.
I am the one that did all the genetic and disease testing (she is a1/a2 btw), long legged and carries wild red. Ha.
Here she is the day she came home 6 months ago:

I would guess she is at least 6 months in the last photo. Do you have a time of year you prefer to calve?

N ot over 12 months and not less the 10 months IMO. Holding off till September would be ideal for her age and for calving weather.
