Sent 2 to the butcher

Called Friday and he said it would be sometime this month. He called Saturday & did it Sunday.

These were 2 Holestein bull calves. 17.5 months old. Halter trained & led to the truck. The butcher was wondering how he would be able to dispatch them. When he saw them led out the gate & tied to the pole, he was very, very surprised. And happy that everything was so easy.

I don't watch any of the rough stuff. But we went to see the meat hanging.

One was 477 hanging. The other was 497. Only grass & hay. And of course minerals & salt. The meat looks very light, sort of vealish.

We have one more left & will feed him grass/hay & then chop this summer. He will go right before deer season (about Oct.)

Butcher called & said how nice the meat looks. Said it looks really "young". We usually wait until 2 to butcher, but one calf was getting at little too mean (not to people, but the other animals). At what point does "baby beef" change to beef?

I was glad that they came to the farm & the boys didn't need transported. They were happy until the end.
