jerswey calf not eating

my jersey bull calf is 3 weeks old and been eating good has a bottle of replacer in the am and one in the pm over the last 3 days has not been as eager to take the bottle and would not take it at all today. Looks very thin compared to the other one of the same age. He does seem to have discharge from his nose and not real active. What can I do??

Read the sick calf sticky in this forum, and come back if you have any questions. The big killers of young calves is pneumonia, and scours. Sounds like pneumonia to me. Get some medicine into him ASAP. Been so long since I've treated one that I'm not sure of what to use or dosages, but it might be in the sticky.

Get ahold of your vet NOW!!! Get some draxxin for pnuemonia. Any nassal discharge is not good. If you can not reach a vet try LA200 till you can get them. I am not a fan of LA200 but this year it has been workignon what ever is floating aroound here in sotuehrn wis.

Bob is right, use LA200 if you have it...But LA200 is lightweight antibacterial, you really need powerful stuff from a VET...Bob mentioned draxxin, he's right on.

See if the vet will sell you some Nuflor. This knocks the respiratory problems for us.

Sorry about the hast there. Had a gent coming to look at a engine.
There is a good number of choices to use. There is draxxin, Nufluor, Micotil, and Baytril. All are about teh same cost due to the dosage for the animal. I have had no experince with baytril. But, from my vet is that it seems to not have much effect in my area. I usally go with draxxin now days. But each bug can be different. Some drugs will slow it down but not get ti overr. SO then I will use another drug to see how that works. My last choice is Micotil. Its a very good drug, but extremly dangerous to humans.
I have been having good luck this year useing LA200. For some odd reason its been working pretty good. But, I do not like the lumps it leaves from the injection site.
As with all treatments I also give Sustain III tablets too. Or if you vet carries SMZ tabelts they will work too. But will need to give them twice aday.

As spring nears be on the watch for sick cattle. This up and down weatehr is very hard on them.

Micotil is very good against pneumonia and can work miracles, but it can kill you. Don't try to use it unless you're trained in it's use.

It's better to lose the calf than to lose you!
