Sale barn (pic)

Sale barn (pic) - Cattle

Just a follow up on the sticky called "Sale Barn Calves". These two calves are what your looking for...alert, clean, shiney, dry tails, cool normal noses, bright eyes...The one on the left I'd guess at 7 days old. The one on the right at 10 days old. Just wanted to share....Topside

Can someone post a pic on what I can expect a 3 day to 7 day old holstein calf to look like.

Marc those little heifers were bought at Smith Grove dairy auction in Kentucky. Jersey or anything that resembles Jersey is all I buy....Topside

topside, are these your new kids or just some you saw at sale?

I always wondered, what kinda glue do they put those tags on with?
That stuff is good with staying on.

when is the smiths grove sale? Thats REALLY close to me. Do you go there often?
also interested in the prices there. If you know what farm those came off of....any chance a person could bypass the auction?

Goodness, nice looking - free martins or no? I'm curious where this sale is in Ky, too!
Prices?

I'd never see any calves looking like that go through here - never.

Looks like the type of bull calves we used to send through the sale barn. Before I started marketing them to dairy goat owners and other homesteaders.
We'd be lucky to see $15 for them most times.

Very nice looking calves and exactly what Jersey calves of that age should look like. They are a credit to their seller.

What are your long-term plans for them?

Cheers,
Ronnie

The auction is every Tuesday. Below are last week's numbers. To buy Jerseys or Jersey crosses is one big gamble, usually just a handful per week. You will have 100-150 calves to pick from. I always re-sell my calves. I don't go to this auction often because it's a long drive....Have a great weekend...Topside
