Is my price off?
I posted on the barter board 2 non registered but pure bred Angus heifers bred. I was wondering if my price 900.00/ea is way out of line? Both are bred to Dexter bull for April calves.
Is it unreasonable to expect 900.00/ea for these cattle? They weigh right around 900 lbs ea The bigger one may be slighty heavier then that. Since I don't go to the cattle auctions I am going by what I find on line. Any information is appreciated. I know some of you have a lot more knowledge of prices than I do.

if they do weigh 900 lbs they probably would bring that no problem if not bred to the dexter or not bred at all

That is what I thought also. They weigh at least 900 lbs. I just talked to a guy who was interested but claimed my price was way high. Of course a buyer is always going to say that but the price he was willing to pay was just ridulous. These are VERY nice pure Angus heifers not some run of the mill cutter cattle.

Too cheap, they would bring 1200 to 1400 here. They would probably bring more then your asking price across the scales as feeders.

Manhattan , Kansas , bred heiffers were easily bringing $1100 and up. Some very good were bringing $1500. Even old broken mouth bred cows were bringing $850 up to $1000. I don't know Kentucky and I don't know dexters, but I do know angus and Kansas and you are too cheap for around here.

Not out of line at all, maybe a bit under if anything. Don`t take a dime less, and maybe try for a little extra if you can. > Thanks Marc

Bred dexter may be a selling point for some but not for all! You would probably get more response if you do not mention that they are bred.
As far as cull cow prices that is all on a per pound basis. If you figure yours at todays cull prices they are worth less than $500.

Heifers would not sell as cull, they would sell as feeders or fats, both over $100. cwt.

People in this thread have been using high cull prices as a benchmark for the value of the animals. At 900pounds and bred they sure will not sell as fats.
As feeders they should bring a buck a pound as open but not as bred. As far as bred prices 900 pounds and calving in a couple of months is not very big and will not bring the top price.
They might be better off to keep them and sell them as pairs when there is new grass this spring and more buyers are in the market looking to utilize extra grass.

Up this way you can sell cull cows on the rail. If they are good fat cows you can get a very good price. Neighbor said the other day they got 1.30 a lb. for hanging weight for cull cows, I thought that was pretty good. > Thanks marc

My grandma's ranch here in Colorado just sold their yearling heifers at the sale barn for $900 each. Not bred and not purebreds, just maine-anjou/angus cross. Don't take anything less than $900 and like others said, if you really need the money more than moving them fast, raise it a little.

I don't think that's too much, but breeding them to a Dexter is not necessarily a good idea. If someone is interested in a purebred Angus, they probably want it to be bred to another Angus.
Can they be registered as Angus? It only costs about $7 to register an Angus calf up to 4 months old. That would give the new owner pedigree, EPDs, etc., and some people are quite willing to pay more for that.
We sold open registered Angus heifers last year two weeks after weaning. $900 take your pick; $800 to take them all. The first guy picked two. Then two guys partnered up to take the rest. And they all asked for next year's heifer crop. So I don't think they were priced too high.

Could it be the time of year? I know cattle sell for more and in higher numbers here in Tx in late Feb. Bred cows sell even higher. 900$ for a healthy and breed cow, with papers is about on spot, with some selling for more east of here. Hang in there if you can, she'll sell
