Getting back to the Dexter cows

I read the earlier post concerning price of a dexter cow. I would love to have a cow to milk. Here on the east coast, they are expensive, too expensive. I have looked at the association and all of it's for sale sites. There has to be someone selling less expensive Dexters that are good clean cattle close to VA. I would consider miniature jersey, again too expensive. I'm getting desperate to find a reliable, small milk cow. I'll even purchase a calf. I love to handle young calves and often raise orphan calves for the neighbors. Can anyone help?

There are a few good Dexter breeders very close to you in Virginia. You can find a list of breeders on either the ADCA or PDCA web sites.

I'm a little further away, in central Virginia, just west of Petersburg.

You're invited to come visit any time you come this way. If I don't have what you want, I can hook you up with a breeder in Virginia or one of the neighboring states.

You just missed a nice Dexter/Shorthorn cow. Her calf was taken to be bottle raised and she was begging to be milked, but she's drying up, now.

email me at the address on the web site and I'll give you a list of nearby breeders, who won't break your bank account and have good quality stock.

Don't give up on a dexter, they're not all priced like gold..there's a 20 month old heifer for sale in Lebanon Tn for 600.00,exposed to a bull, may be bred.Don't know any more info.I think I'd take Genebo up on the offer, there's some judgement I could respect.

My experience is that people get what they pay for, whatever they are buying.

Here is a link with Dexters for sale from reputable breeders. Many are very reasonable. At least one of the breeders in Missouri has connections with a reputable livestock hauler. If you can't find a Dexter in your area and are set on buying a Dexter, you might give this a try.

Here is a link to Five Ponds Farm in Missouri. They have a couple of nice heifers for sale.
