Sugar Beet Pulp ?

Hello everyone !

I tried looking this up elsewhere but all I can seem to find are scientific studies that I don't understand so I was hoping ya'll could help me out !

We are near Sugar Beet Country , and I saw an ad in the paper for VERY cheap Sugar Beet pulp . It says in the ad it's great for cows .

I know in the horse world it's good for getting weight on old horses ....

What I would like to know is ,can we feed it straight ? Or if not ,much for per cow a day can we feed and what could we mix it with ?

Our cows have grass/alfalfa mix hay 24/7 and access to pasture still .

Thankyou SO much in advance for your time (once again !)

Thankyou for the link .

I skimmed over that earlier and it's for finishing feeding for steers . We only have one steer ,the others are cows/calves and a bull . We just want something to help supplement in our extremely cold winters .

You need to get it wet before feeding.

if its like the stuff around here it comes wet and you need a big truck to pick it up at the factory. to get good use you need to blend it, cows don't care for it much all alone. it molds quick and will rot unless you can use it quickly or store it in ag bags. the dairys love it but its hard for a couple of cows farmer to get enough benifit to offset the trouble of handling it. sometimes you can get it pellitized then add water and feed like 7th said and that works good for a small farmer.

But it won't hurt to feed straight if I can get them to eat it ?
We'll have to give the company a call and see how it's sold .

Thankyou so much !!!!

never hurt any animals around here straight. if its the pellets you do need to soak them before free choicing or they will swell in the animals gut.
