Weaning Bucket Calf

I the next week or so I'm looking a picking up 2-3 bucket calves. I grew up on a hog farm so I know very little about raising cattle. At what age can I start weaning a calf? I have found on the internet from two week to 2 months. Also any advice for the beginner would be appreciated.

I've raised around 60 calves always weaned at 8 weeks, sometimes longer, never shorter...Welcome to the forum....Topside

If you are going to wean younger, you want to put them on grain ASAP to build the rumen.

Wecome! I shoot for 10 weeks. That's between the recommended 8 or 12. You will hear either length suggested. Most important is that the calves are on grain and hay; eating well and GROWING.

2 weeks is WAY too short. I have 2 holstein steers that I am ready to sell. They are 10 weeks old, 250 lbs and eating their little fool heads off.

and thats lots of grain and just keep giving them grain....they must be growing no matter how old...

do not change grain from one kind to other wait till after weaned 2 weeks before moving from pen raised in.....or move from pen and still give milk...do not change pen and wean at same time

8 weeks is what I do and I have 80 on milk now will be weaning 40 next 2 weeks and starting another 40

two other things is the breed of calf your weaning and the weather they get weaned into
