Final Tub of Grain (Pic)

For those of you interested, this old boy weighed in at 855 pounds today. He is 18 months old. Bought at the sale barn, weaned off goats milk at 8 weeks old. Fed small amounts of 13% grain his entire adult life. His final two months he was givin lots of grain morning and evening and roamed the pastures throughout the day. Lastly he was bought at an experiement, simply meaning he was a tiny calf more than likely a twin. Actually about the size of a German Shepard. The only calves I have ever had die were tiny, guess it's just a challenge to try again...This time I win....Topside

topside looks like you did great..looks like JERSEY STEAK TIME

Ready for a secret I buy those little twin heifers if tubed to be ok.....last one I gave $12.50 for....if they get warm milk and PUT A HUMAN VEST on them they are easy to grow....feeding to much will get you in trouble fast....so that size I buy and put in pen by size..feed 3 times a day I have a dipper marked to amount of milk they get not a full serving and you have better luck..

Myers, I agree 100%. This boy got so little milk per feeding 3X that only you can imagine. The three that died on me I fed very little but even that was still to much....Topside

You guys are so right, most people kill these little calves by feeding way to much. I also feed small amounts and have very good luck raising my jersey`s. > Marc

We just had our 13 month old Jersey stear butchered Friday, his hanging weight was 298#'s. I get the calves at 3 weeks old and barter the farmer to take care of his dog while he is at 2 fairs in the summer. He ALWAYS raises me a great calf, past the real danger period. This past year the calf was 1/2 Jersey and 1/2 Brown Swiss. LOVE the Jersey meat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would expcted a little better on the meat..but I guess that is also why theysell cheap at sale barn even if grown...why I eat my bulls even if they are 5 years old

Sorry to say we have only enjoyed the brisket and burgers up to this point....The extra feed fed the final two months is putting a smiles on my families faces...Sweet, tender and juicy is all I hear them say. Glad you asked Mister Myers, I may need to thaw out some steaks for Friday night enjoyment....Topside
