Gettin' rid of my Dexters

After much debate between my wife and I, we have decided to switch gears and I will be selling all of my Dexters, except the bull. We are located in South Louisiana approx 1.5hr N of New Orleans. They are neat little cows and I have been happy with them. If anyone is interested, they can contact me on here or by responding to my craigslist ad - see below link.

Thanks

Can I be nosey and ask why you are selling them? I thought about getting Dexters, but I found Jersey cows were a little easier to come by. I have heard a lot of good things about the breed. I know a lot of people who love them. If you weren't so far away I would love to come look at them.

No problem.
A few reasons - my pastures are in poor shape from the previous owners horses and I want to rennovate and rest the pastures as well as redo alot of old fencing - during this time I would have to pen all the cows and feed hay which would get expensive.
Secondly, I have had them for 6 years now and want to try a different breed, preferably polled. I have had a few with horns (they are now dehorned) show some attitude towards a few other polled cows on a few occasions and I don't want to have to deal with dehorning every year.
Third, though they taste great and are the perfect size for a family as far as beef goes, you can't sell extra calves at the sale barn without taking a beating on price so you are limited as to your market if you sell calves yearly.

Hopefully, I don't come across as bashing dexters, b/c I am not trying to by any means. They have treated us well, fed us, and been real easy keepers and would recommend them to those looking for a few cows on limited acreage to keep the grass down or to provide beef for your family.
