Lactose Intolerant
I have found that I am lactose intolerant and I had heard that there were differnt types of cattle that had milk that lactose intolerant people could drink. So, i'm asking if anyone has heard of this and if so, what cattle breeds are best?

I was lactose intolerant. Since I got Maggie in November, I have had more milk in this past month than I had in 30 years.
No cramps and what comes with it. My breath is even better.

I have people that can drink Raw milk that are lactose intolerant, they think it is fantasic that they can drink milk again. The reason for this is the homoginazation process, it breaks down the fat globules so small that your body trys to use every last fat globual, and with whole raw milk the fat is larger and the body passes it threw. > Thanks Marc

I was lactose intolerant until I started drinking raw Jersey milk. I would bet that any breed of cow that gives you raw milk would be okay, but my only experience has been with the Jerseys.
When milk is pasteurized, the heat kills germs but also destroys many of the naturally occurring enzymes that help us to digest milk. When you drink it raw, those enzymes are there to help you
Every once in awhile I get to craving a latte from Starbucks, and every.single.time I drink one (which is obviously made with pasteurized and homogenized milk) I get painful cramps and gas within a few hours.
Life is so much better when you can enjoy fresh milk, especially when it's from your very own cow in your own backyard.
If you can't do that, the next best thing is to buy it raw from a local dairy like Marc's.

Thanks ladies,
I use to drink fresh cow's milk when I was a kid all day long and it never bothered me. Now I can't even drink a cup of store bought milk without gettin sick. Can't seem to drink any other milks either. So, I guess I am on a mission! Lol.

Have you tried raw cows milk straight from the cow or fresh raw goats milk?

Goats milk is usually held to be best for those who are L.I. Holsteins are the worst. And no, I can't find the articles to back me up on those assertions. Raw from any of them will be a world apart though.

DD and DSIL are both lactose intolerant. When drinking raw milk from our jersey, DSIL was able to tolerate it well. DD wasn't. It kind of depends on you and the cow. You might have to test out a few and see what happens when you drink it.

I think it depends on the person but I had two people that use to buy from me that were LI. One felt better with goats milk and the other tolerated both so chose cows milk (jersey) both raw. I really don't understand LI and don't pretend to but I do know that goat's milk only has slight amounts of Casein if that is what some people are allergic too and I thought I heard a2/a2 cows also had a different casein protein. I haven't tested our cows yet but I know two have a2 Sires.

Try using either cows or goats milk to make Kefir Milk with (Kefir Grains digest the lactose...).

One of our twins needed lactose free formula but we switched them to our raw cows milk at 5 mo old and she thrived on it. No throwing up either. They just turned 1 a couple of weeks ago and the one with the formula issue is over 22lbs - my 3yo is only 26lbs.

From what I've read there are very few people who are truly lactose intolerant. If you take that group of people and switch them to raw milk, goat or cow, their LI goes away. My daughter is one of those people. She would get cramps from drinking milk, but since we switched to raw, they've gone away completely.
There are some people who can't tolerate any milk, raw or cooked. They are the truly lactose intolerant group.
