Can anyone help me find the article about once-a-day milking?

I either read it here, or else I followed a link from here, I'm not sure which. It wasn't a recent thread, but I can't recall how long ago I saw it. I can't seem to find it by searching.

Thanks!

I`m not sure, but I do think I wrote on that one. Just go ahead and ask a question here if you have one. > Thanks Marc

I found several articles on once a day milking by typing that into the google search engine. It seems to be more popular in New Zealand- lots of good info too. Here is one link I found about a farm that converted to once a day. I'm just getting started with dairy cows so I haven't done it myself yet- but that is my plan. Hope the link helps.

Well, I'm really trying to remember the whole how-to of only milking once per day. We have our first milk cow, she gave birth a couple days before Christmas, and I'm just trying to figure out how we'll be handling things with her.

I remember that thread too Trish. I found one, but I think there's a better thread than this one:
Milking cows

We have a young heiffer that we are planning on milking once a day and putting her calf on the other part of the day (she's almost a year old now). I hope you find more information - I'll bookmark it this time!

I milk OAD and love it too. But the other 12 hours a day, my cows calf gets to nurse. I separate them at night and milk in the morning, then turn them out together all day. Believe it or not, my calf is 9 months old now and is VERY nice sized and mom still wants him to nurse. He isn't too rough with her and she isn't getting scraped up. So for us it works really well. I would like to add however, we milked twice a day when the calf was young and couldn't take all the milk himself. Once he was taking it all, we started separating them so we could have some too.

There are plenty of folks here with experience milking OAD. I switched my whole herd (35 cows) over to OAD in September of 09. When calves are little and don't drink much I leave the calf with the cow 24/7. If I need the milk and the calf is starting to take it all then the calves get locked up at night and are turned back out with the cows after milking. We also are 100% grass fed during the green season and feed just enough grain for body maintenance during the winter.
