Weather change

Yesterday was sunny and warmer. This morning started out warmer and overcast at morning feeding:

Weather change - Cattle

By the time I was feeding the goat herd and the Jerseys at my place, it had changed drastically:

Weather change - Cattle

Front pasture:

Weather change - Cattle

Drive.

Weather change - Cattle

Weather change - Cattle

Weather change - Cattle

Now its just icing and cold. Yech.

We have several inches here too and still coming down. I knew we were due for a change and I didn't need the TV weather chick to tell me. The cows, at least the younger ones, were running, bucking, jumping and kicking like rodeo bulls just generally acting silly yesterday. Anyone else notice their stock acting like this before a weather change? Mine almost always do.

I feel so sorry for you guys, we have a foot and a half snow on the ground. And hasn`t been above freezing maybe once this month, I`m getting to the age that winter isn`t as fun as it use to be. > Thanks Marc

Yes, mine do to. Actually its funny but thats when I notice the older generation acting up! They look so funny bucking and twisting in mid-air like calves.

Thats my oldest group. Since I still like using bottles(my youngest brother usually feeds the calves their milk while I'm milking the herd and its easier for him to understand and keep up ONE BOTTLE PER FEEDING PER CALF, than the nipple barrels that I've used in the past), I break them up into groups of 6 and set up the board for the bottle holders.

They range from almost two months to almost three months. Thanks.

I just disbudded them last week(having let time get away from me once again), and that was a JOB.

Winter has been my least favorite month since I turned 18. If I could hibernate now........I might like it. I love a wood stove blazing with heat and a good book. This has been one of the coldest Decembers on record. This is our warm spell. We hit 0 and it wasn't even winter yet. Ugh.
Stay warm.

Wishing you healthy Christmas kids! All the family but us oldest three are back in Ohio visiting Grandparents over Christmas. So, they probably have plenty of snow for their day.

Woke up to snow, then changed to sleet and now back to snow once again. Temps. dropping, no shortage of mud, good fun all day....Otherwise I'm one happy hobby farmer.

I know......I think it must be the end of january already. 17 degrees and frozen waterers. But no wind and I can wear regular leather work boots to chore in as all the mud is frozen. Guess there is a good side to everything. And this should be killing lots of parasites.

We are still having the driest, warmest winter on record down my way that I know of. Man o man, I'd like to see some of that moisture come my way or I'm gonna start the spring growing season off with dusty ground and dry ponds.

Ditto up here in our part of the state, dry and more dry. Sure makes me nervous.
