Moving Cows(photos)

We moved the herd yesterday, the pasture they were on was getting kinda grazed off. Brought them home, put the bred heifers with them and then took them out to their new digs.

Found the first of them

Seems kinda a shame to move them when the water is still running....

Found the main herd

Not too far from town (or home for that matter)

Waiting in a gate, they always think they should turn here...

Hooo....brrr!!

That reminds me of the ranch we lived on when DS was born. The bulk of the cows would summer about 15 miles south of the main place and the boss wouldn't bring them home until January when it was nice and COLD.
The year DS was born, I obviously had a new baby so I brought up the drag in the pickup. With a heater.
I was SOOO glad I wasn't horseback. That was the year that the kid who came out and did day-work with us frost bit his toes.

I've gotten soft living down here in the tropics of northern Kansas. Even in winter, we can usually schedule it to move cows on fairly warm days.

HAHAHA, I totally understand what you are talking about. I've moved cows in some awfully cold weather. But it was actually pretty nice when we moved them a couple days ago, was just slightly below freezing.

Looks like they were calm and easy going down the road, good thing to keep them from slipping and sliding on the pavement. You make it look easy, you must know what you are doing. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, MO. But the cow's know the route, so it is pretty easy. We've been moving cows this way as long as I can remember.
